  1. WCSO:  Washington County Sheriff's Office
  2. PCF:  Purgatory Correctional Facility
  3. Weapons Post:  Any position or assignment that requires the individual to carry a firearm.
  4. On-Duty:  Officially representing the WCSO.

AB 06_102  GENERAL

  1. Policy:
    1. Employees shall wear approved attire while on duty, as outlined in this policy.
    2. While off duty, employees shall not wear attire that would identify the individual as an employee or representative of the WCSO, except as specifically approved.
      1. Reasonable public exposure in uniform while off duty is allowed during transit to and from work assignments.
      2. Unnecessary and extended public exposure while in uniform off duty should be avoided.
    3. Employees shall maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance while on duty.
    4. If there is a disagreement between an employee and supervisor regarding attire/and or grooming the Sheriff or their designee will make the final determination.
  2. Rationale:
    1. Approved uniforms:
      1. Provide personal identification of the individual;
      2. Provide identification of the WCSO as the individual's employer; and
      3. Indicate the level and scope of authority of the individual.
    2. Unapproved uniform items:
      1. May cause confusion; and
      2. Detract from the established image of the uniform set.
    3. A neat and well-groomed appearance enhances the image of the employee and the WCSO.

  1. The County's uniform allowance is strictly designed to help reimburse employees for their official uniforms. The allowance is not provided as a benefit.
  2. An employee is not eligible for a uniform allowance if off work and not receiving County pay when the allowance is given (January & July). There is no reimbursement for employees who are off work for an entire distribution period (e.g., FMLA, military leave).
  3. Employees are responsible for their own uniform purchasing, cleaning, repair, and replacements.
  4. Employees shall replace items before they are so worn or damaged that the items present an unacceptable appearance.
  5. Employees shall replace items when they no longer meet current specifications.
  6. The burden is on the individual employee to ensure that specific uniform purchase items are approved by the WCSO.
  7. The WCSO will not reimburse an individual who has made an incorrect purchase.
